Air & Water Filtration
The plant and facilities shall: " ... operate fans and other air-blowing equipment in a manner that minimizes the potential for contaminating food, food-packaging materials, and food-contact surfaces." CFR 110.2. "Any water that contacts food or food-contact surfaces shall be safe and of adequate sanitary quality." CFR 110.37.
Air filtration may be used to remove physical and microbiological contaminants from the air supply. The degree of filtration depends on the risk of product contamination by the air being filtered. Air contacting food products, open packaging and exposed ingredients must be thoroughly filtered.- Low efficiency, high capacity filters are the first line for treating incoming air.
- High efficiency, lower capacity filters serve as a secondary treatment of air.
- Air balance filters are used for emptying or filling tanks or silos.
- In-line air filters remove contaminants from air blown into processing lines.
- Filters for particulate contamination are designed to remove sediment.
- Carbon filters remove volatile chemical contaminants responsible for off flavors and odors.
- Filter housings hold filters in place under a variety of conditions.
