Food-Safe Lighting

"Provide adequate lighting … and provide safety-type light bulbs, fixtures, skylights, or other glass suspended over exposed food in any step of preparation or otherwise protect against food contamination in case of glass breakage." CFR21, parts110.20 (5)

Shatterproof lamps protect products and employees from broken glass. Designed to be used in open fixtures, these lamps contain virtually all of the glass within the protective coating if the lamp should break.

• Flourescent lamps are the most popular choice for well lit processing areas.
• Metal halide lamps are the most efficient source of pure white light.
• Incandescent lamps replace standard bulbs where shatter protection is required.

Lighting fixtures that are sealed and cleanable are ideal for use in food processing areas. Smooth, rounded edges minimize dust and can be easily maintained.

• Hanging light fixtures direct light downward for well-distributed lighting.
• Tube fixtures can direct light to where it is needed.
