Drain Maintenance and Odor Control
"Plumbing shall be of adequate size and design and adequately installed and maintained to avoid constituting a source of contamination to food, water supplies, equipment, or utensils or creating an unsanitary condition." CFR 21, Part 110.37
Drains and drain hardware can be a source of microbiological contaminates for the food plant environment. They are also the primary avenue by which organic load may enter the waste stream contributing to treatment surcharges.Drain maintenance products are an important part of an effective sanitation program. A well maintained drain will not be a source of microbial contamination and related odors in a food processing facility. Tools are available for an effective drain maintenance program.
