Condensation Control

"The plant and facilities shall be constructed in such a manner that floors, walls and ceilings may be adequately cleaned and kept clean and kept in good repair; that drip or condensate from fixtures, ducts and pipes does not contaminate food, food contact surfaces, or food-packaging materials." CFR 21, Part 110.20

Overhead pipes containing cold liquids are a source of condensate which can drip and splatter onto sanitary surfaces, raw materials and packaging supplies. Water forming on these pipes will contain air borne contamination which has settled as dust on the pipes' surfaces. Insulating these surfaces and reducing plant humidity will prevent condensate from forming and conserve energy required to keep pipe contents cold.
